Materials
The Veeh Harp is meticulously constructed with the finest materials available. Each instrument is crafted by hand from the initial seasoning of the wood to the final layer of polish. A dedicated team of craftsmen, led by factory director Martin Veeh, work on the instruments year round in a purpose-built facility. Expert social pedagogue and business economist Johanna Veeh-Krauß is responsible for all production management.
The front soundboard of the harp is made from spruce from the European alps (Germany, Italy and Bavaria) due to its highly resonant properties. Its purpose is to transform the vibrations of the harp’s strings into a lyrical and ethereal tone. Only soundboards that meet our demanding quality standards are selected for use. The back and sides of the harp are made from European maple (Scotland and Belgium) due to its strength and stability.
We use Canadian maple for the pinblock as it is more dense than the European maple used for the back and sides. This adds extra grip to the pins and ensures stable tension on the tin-coated steel strings, which results in a high level of tuning stability and reduces the frequency of necessary tunings. Maple is considered a tonewood and is often used in guitars and violins.
The bridge pins are made of Cameroon ebony: a dense, high-value blackwood. The use of a very dense wood minimizes damage caused by the strings ‘cutting’ into the bridge pins at high tension. The bridge pins maintain string alignment and assist in transmitting vibrations from the string to the soundboard.
An eye-catching trademark feature of the Veeh Harp, the ‘rosette’ is a symbol of the exquisite craftsmanship that goes into every harp. Laser-cut into the soundboard with utmost precision, it is also an additional sound hole on the front of the harp, ensuring maximum sonority.
The machine-threaded steel tuning pins have a diameter of 5mm and are gripped by the solid maple pinblock. It is recommended that the tuning of the harp be undertaken by an adult or under adult supervision using the proper equipment (the tuning hammer).
The bridge is also made of Cameroon ebony, reinforced with steel at the contact point of the strings. The use of a dense wood helps maintain the integrity of the bridge.
Every harp is numbered, personalised, and branded with the original Veeh Harp logo.
The instruments are 100% made in Germany.
